The focus of the Home Fellow Project is to bring relief to African-elderly citizens regarding nutrition, loneliness and general support.
As part of the Grandma and Grandpa Project, Helping Hand operates various initiatives to treat the elderly. The project makes it possible for elderly people who are lonely, and no longer have the financial or practical means, to treat themselves by watching a movie or attending a sports match.
WHAT IS THE GRANDMA AND GRANDPA PROJECT
Every elderly person represents a life lived. The harsh reality, however, is that many elderly people do not enjoy the comfortable old age they envisioned during their youth. Many are left behind by their relatives, having to fend for themselves on a meagre state pension.
While some are suffering from loneliness, isolation and depression, others need financial support. The focus of the Grandma and Grandpa Project is to provide assistance across a wide spectrum to these pillars of society.
We have a number of projects aimed at uplifting the elderly while at the same time also trying to educate communities about the importance of looking after their senior citizens.
Projects include employing caregivers in specific communities to look after a few elderly citizens. The caregiver is responsible for delivering food parcels donated by Helping Hand, taking the elderly to the clinic or doctor and making them feel valued.
